It is often hard to diagnose a medical condition as something that is causing the sleep problem. The diagnosis of most sleep disorders is based upon the general health of the person concerned, and not merely based upon the symptoms that occur.

Most sleep disorders should not cause any problems with the general health of the patient. Sleeping problems should only be serious if they are due to a disease or other condition that is interfering with the normal functioning of the brain.
